Freese Architecture Brings the Hardware!
We are honored to have received two 2021 AIA Eastern Oklahoma Excellence in Design awards and one 2021 AIA Oklahoma Excellence in Design Award (state-level) last year.
At the Eastern Oklahoma level, there were 39 submissions, and only 12 projects were given awards. Our Lakeview residence received an Honor Award – the highest of the three levels – in the Residential category.
The juror comments:
“This home is massive, but the design breaks it down to scalable rustic pieces that integrate into the landscape nicely with dynamic views of the lake and surrounding land. The interior materials have a modern yet vernacular feel using timber framing with stone walls and flooring and wood siding. The scale of this large house fits the landscape and looks like a compound of rustic vernacular buildings fitting the region.”
Our Victor residence received a Merit Award – the second highest level – in the Residential category.
The juror comments:
“This is an elegant modern solution for a residence. The clean white and black sculptural quality of the exterior is striking and intriguing. The honest use of materials inside the home utilizing concrete, wood, and clean white surfaces are impeccably detailed. The quality of natural light throughout the home is very pleasant. The plan organizes nicely around the pool in the central courtyard.”
We were particularly excited about the 2021 AIA Oklahoma Excellence in Design award we received. Out of 81 submissions, 20 were selected, and from those, only four were awarded the Honor Award – the highest level – and Victor was one of them! We enjoyed breathing the rarified air usually reserved for larger firms!
The juror comments:
“The jury appreciated the designs consideration for the detail and the overall composition and materiality. We can imagine what a delight it is to walk through this house for the first time – turning each corner and marveling at the refined details. The unique variety of spaces, both
interior and out, are really exceptional. Sometimes you just want to hang out in a space, and this is certainly one.”
