Dramatic Lakeside Home Featured in Oklahoma Magazine
We are pleased to have Oklahoma Magazine feature our recently completed project in their July 2019 issue. Located at 2830 South Gary, in Tulsa, Lakeside consisted of a substantial remodel and additions to a rather ordinary, 1960’s, ranch style home that just happened to have an extraordinary neighborhood lake in the back yard. Our client’s directive to us was simple: “It’s all about the lake!”
Freese Architecture updated the home to fit the client’s lifestyle with a bold, modern design that is unique and respectful of the neighborhood of like-scaled homes. The familiar elements of this prototypical ranch were updated with 21st century, refined details – elongated buff-colored brick to recall the original crab orchard stone, knife-edge roof eaves, a standing seam metal roof, metal wall panels to replace conventional wood siding, and, of course, lots and lots of glass to open the home and capture spectacular views.
The new central public space creates the main axis of the home with a dramatic vaulted ceiling and center-floating beam that shoots like an arrow to the neighborhood lake. Extended roofs at both ends provide a generous covered entry and protected rear patios for multiple outdoor living opportunities. Expanses of glass replace opaque walls at the rear, offering multiple panoramic views and strengthening the indoor/outdoor relationship.
In the same Oklahoma Magazine issue, Freese Architecture was named as one of the top three Best of the Best Residential Architects for the 13th consecutive year! Such recognition is an honor, but it isn’t why we do what we do. Our mission is to satisfy the goals and dreams of our clients through a local modern architecture that improves the built environment in Tulsa and Oklahoma. We like to think that this accolade gives us a thumbs-up that we’re doing something right. Thank you Oklahoma!
